Sunday political tv talkies: Ruthless Rudd masquerade as Kevin 07
Bond 'the Howard slayer' aka Austin Powers aka Bondi jokester?
Mood: d'ohTopic: election Oz 2007
Picture: Will the real Kevin Rudd stand
up (assuming such exists), or like John Howard is he a comedy fiction that blows with the sea breeze in any policy direction?
Author’s
general introductory (note: skip this if you know this regular weekly column):
This is not
a well packaged story. It’s a contemporaneous traverse of the Sunday television free to air political talkies indicating
the agenda of Establishment interests: Better to know ones rivals and allies in Big Politics and Big Media.
Indeed it’s
the tv version monitoring task similar to what Nelson Mandela refers to here in his book Long Walk to Freedom (1994,
Abacus) written in Robben Island prison (where he was meant to die like other African resister chiefs of history in the 19C),
at page 208
“..newspapers
are only a shadow of reality; their information is important to a freedom fighter not because it reveals the truth, but because
it discloses the biases and perceptions of both those who produce the paper and those who read it.”
Just substitute
‘Sunday tv political talkie shows’ for "newspapers" in the quote above.
For actual
transcripts go to web sites quoted below except with Riley Diary on 7. And note transcripts don’t really give
you the image content value.

stayed out of business adverts campaign for Work Choices of Howard Govt.
PB compere notes big exaggeration of adverts re economy boost via WC. Ridout concedeso only part. Most of AIG

Weekend Sunrise, 8.35-40 am Riley Diary -
Riley goes the Bond allusion as we thought when hearing Kevin 07 website with the same colour hair. In fact
we got out Casino Royal but he is so not the new Bond its funny. Rudd is more like Bob Carr dandy (only with kids) that is
slippery, stands for everything and nothing, only cares about power and totally ruthless. Just like Howard.
Footage shows nerds in Kevin07 shirts – jumps to farce of yeah baby music of Mike Myers
– Austin Powers – who also has an Australian connection here with Russell Gilbert – and its really very
funny

Insiders 2
Bob McMullan quote “hell of a way to run a country” riposte
by Cassidy Rudd me tooism is a hell of a way to run an Opposition. How true.
Avoids the private bail out of sawmill in Hume contest with project in
Bombala (as per NSW Stateline show last night).
Very competent Bob.
Everyperson wine grower small business people.
Footage of Rudd on interest rate rise.
Panel Karen Middleton SBS, David Marr Fairfax, Andrew Bolt News Herald
Sun.
Note Howard tricky, wriggle room, laugh in agreement.
Aston byelection in 2004 interest rates big difference if happens says
Howard. Bolt says devastating for govt on economics that ALP wouldn’t do worse.
Paul Kelly soliloquy – first time since 1980 interest within 6
months of an election. Very tough week for the govt. …. Footage similar to MTP above about Rudd echo – there is
a contradiction but right tactic re safe on the economy. Govt got some good lines up about Echo nomics.
Kelly in Qld looking at council amalgamations – wall to wall labour
govts leverage contrast. [Rudd as Bob Carr angle in fact, only with 3 kids, so back under the trap door Carr …..with
Mark Latham ha ha.]
“Every one is playing a double game” Bolt agrees with Marr
no one really knows what’s going on, and what ALP stands for. Journos pick up my theme in the images above about farce,
lifted from Riley on 7. No one really knows what ALP will do if they are elected.
Agree Howard interventions wouldn’t have happened without election
pressure. ALP will be very interventionist. Only being done where no Lib govts, will be in future so bad governance.
Quotes Laura Tingle – pulling rabbits out of hat. Transparent to
public? Think so.
Bolt says falling into stereotype of trickiness up till now exaggerated
claim.
…. NT intervention robust debate, Bolt used to work up there for
CLP Reeves.
Kevin Harkins resignation as ALP candidate – talks about alleged
inducements but logger leaflet campaign pro Latham the Monday prior in The Australian might really explain his wrecked
chances: as here
Home page is http://www.abc.ninsiders/et.au/
Sunday 9
Aussie home loans Symonds something about slow big end of town via interest
rates hurts the battlers, Greenwood says another tool is needed for big end slow down.
Story about veterans unhappy with Vietnam war era.
Downer with Oakes , missed the start. On Iraq – admits US congress
patience very thin now. No public support says LO.
More complex issue. Rudd letter in press today in support of the war.
ALP getting the star recruits re national security. Downer presses “no
plan for the future” lacks substance PR creation – this is the Bob Carr effect via Hawker Britian – too
good at spin.
LO – at what point look at the leadership – 3 months from
election earlier – you tap PM on shoulder? Says settled issue in the Coalition. Howard is enormous electoral plus. In
the cycle now always controversy. No one has any intention to tap him on shoulder.
